Last summer, we had our house re-roofed, and it was a big project. But here’s the thing, I recently discovered that one of our bathroom fans actually vents into the attic. Yeah, I know, kind of a head-scratcher. It turns out that the fan is connected to a flexible duct, but it’s not hooked up to any external vents outside. I even went back and checked some old photos, and there were no corresponding vents on the roof before the re-roofing job. So, I’m pretty sure it’s not a case of the roofers forgetting about it. It would’ve been nice if they had noticed and mentioned it to me, though.
Now, I’ve been thinking about replacing the bathroom fan/light unit because it’s getting old and cranky. And while I’m at it, why not have it properly vented this time around? So, the big question is, who should I hire for the job?
I’m considering whether I should just go with the roofers who did the re-roofing last year. It might be convenient to stick with the same company and have them take care of this additional task. On the flip side, they weren’t exactly the rock stars of the construction world, but they weren’t terrible either. So, there’s that to ponder.
Or should I go the traditional route and get three quotes from different companies? It’s the standard advice, after all. But, let’s be real, that process can be a bit of a hassle. On the other hand, it could help me compare prices, services, and overall vibes from different contractors. Decisions, decisions.
I’m leaning towards the idea of hiring the roofers from last year. It might streamline things, and they’re already somewhat familiar with the layout of the house. Plus, if there are any issues down the road, I’d only have to deal with one company. But then again, maybe it’s worth exploring other options to see if there’s a better fit out there.
