They stumbled upon a leak and had no clue where it was coming from. This guy takes a look and thinks, “Ah, it might be those polybutylene lines giving you trouble.” (Yeah, I know, polybutylene is a pain, but replacing the whole shebang is a wallet-buster I can’t swing right now.) So, the plumber slices out a section of those pesky pipes. And what does he find? A staple, bam, right through the lines where the contractors attached that flimsy sheeting. The plumber isn’t Sherlock Holmes, but he’s pretty sure that staple was a big no-no, and if left alone, it would’ve caused a headache later on.
Now, the kicker. The plumber’s like, “That’ll be over $700, please.” Ouch. So, I’m like, “Hey, contractor buddies, look what you did!” I shoot them some pics of the damage and ask them to foot the bill. Their response? A measly $100. They claim their guys could’ve fixed it for that pocket change. They go on about how the plumber went overboard with stuff like new shut-off valves, yada yada. My take? If you break it, you buy it. And they didn’t even sniff out the issue when they had the ceiling wide open!
Here’s where I need your two cents. Should I just bite the bullet, take the hundy, and call it a day? Or do I put on my tough guy pants and demand they cough up the full whack?
