So, I’m in a bit of a pickle. I put an offer in for a duplex, all excited to make it my new home, only to realize that it doesn’t have air conditioning. Can you believe it? I’m planning to live in one part and rent out the other, and let’s be real, AC is kind of a necessity, especially in Colorado summers.
When I first checked out the place, I noticed these vents and thought, “Ah, central cooling!” Turns out, they were just for the furnace. The listing on the MLS clearly stated it had both forced air heat and central cooling, so naturally, I expected it to have AC. But surprise, surprise, the seller’s broker admitted they messed up and have now corrected the listing.
Now, here’s the kicker: they’re offering me a measly 2k as compensation. Like, seriously? Adding central air or even a mini-split professionally is going to cost way more than that. And let’s not forget the fact that not having AC could seriously impact my comfort living there and my ability to rent out the other unit.
So, what are my options here? I’m not about to sweat it out in a house without AC during those scorching Colorado summers. And trying to find tenants for a place without cooling? That’s a tough sell.
I mean, the agent messed up big time by falsely advertising the property as having central air and now they expect me to settle for a measly 2k. The inspection deadline is looming, and I need to figure out what to do next.
It’s frustrating, to say the least. I want to make this duplex my cozy haven, but without proper cooling, it’s going to be a hard pass. So, what can I do to make sure I’m not left sweating it out in a hot mess of a home?
