So, I’m in the middle of setting up some pretty hefty floating shelves. On the right side, I drilled right into what seemed like a single stud – smooth sailing, no issues, no strange odors. But on the left side, I hit what I thought was a double stud (according to my trusty stud finder). Now, here’s where things get a bit dicey – the spot I drilled into is just about an inch away from an outlet on the opposite side of the wall (yeah, I know, talk about cutting it close). My stud finder didn’t pick up any electrical signals, but it has a habit of being a bit unreliable, so I’m feeling a tad uneasy.
Here’s the kicker – I’m catching a whiff of something that doesn’t seem right, but I can’t quite place if it’s a cause for concern. The holes I made on the right? No smell whatsoever. But the ones on the left? Definitely emitting some sort of odor. It’s hard to pinpoint if it’s just a warm wood scent or something more ominous. Am I in deep trouble here? Can I just leave it as is? Should I bite the bullet and call in an electrician or someone else to take a look, and if I do, are they going to have to tear the whole wall apart?
I’m so close to wrapping up this lengthy project, and I’m itching to just get it done and dusted. But at the same time, I really don’t fancy the idea of accidentally setting my house ablaze.
