So, I’ve been working with this realtor guy, right? He helped me buy my house, and recently he sold my mom’s place too. And now, we’re in the process of closing on a new home for my mom. From the get-go, he assured us that the seller would cover both agents’ commissions. But then, out of the blue, my buyer’s agent decided to slap his commission onto my side of the settlement statement, catching me completely off guard. Turns out, I never signed any agreement agreeing to pay his commission. Sneaky move, right? I chatted with the escrow officer, and she confirmed that we can move forward with the closing without me having to fork out his commission, as there’s no paperwork binding me to it.
Now, the plot thickens. My agent is now saying he’ll try to persuade the seller to knock down the house price to make up for his commission. Has anyone else gone through this kind of situation? Am I in the clear here, or should I be wary of any tricks before signing on the dotted line?
Update: So, I told my realtor that we’re ready to sign tomorrow. And what does he do? Sends me a Notice of Buyer’s Termination of Contract. He claims that if we go ahead with the signing, we won’t get that sweet discount he’s been working on with the seller. And, just to top it off, he’s throwing in this termination notice to supposedly protect my earnest money. What a rollercoaster, right?
