Would You Buy a House Infested with Rodents?

So, my partner and I were super excited about this house we were about to buy. It was like our dream home, you know? But then, bam! We found out some seriously alarming stuff. Turns out, just four days before we made our offer, they were still catching rodents left and right in the crawl space and attic. And to top it off, there was this crazy amount of standing water in the crawl space because of some heavy rain.

The sellers basically did the bare minimum to fix up the crawl space before putting the house on the market. They didn’t bother to change the insulation in the crawl space or attic because, in their words, “it wasn’t that bad.” Um, excuse me? We paid top dollar thinking this place was in top shape, and now we find out about all these issues.

I’m kind of at a loss here. The sellers claim they’ve already taken care of the problems, but I’m not so sure. Should we try to negotiate a lower price? I mean, there might be other offers on the table, but I can’t imagine anyone being cool with this situation. And to make matters worse, our real estate agent is just brushing off our concerns like they’re no big deal. Classic move, right? All they care about is closing the deal, not making sure we’re getting a good one.

I just don’t know what to do. It feels like we’re stuck between a rock and a hard place. On one hand, we love the house and had our hearts set on it. On the other hand, we can’t ignore these major red flags. It’s like a rollercoaster of emotions, from excitement to disappointment to frustration.

I wish there was an easy solution to all this. Maybe we can get a professional inspection done to see the extent of the damage and if the fixes were done properly. That way, we’ll have some solid evidence to back up our concerns. And who knows, maybe we can use that to our advantage in negotiating a better deal.

But one thing’s for sure, this whole situation has definitely made me question the whole home-buying process. You think you’ve found your perfect home, only to discover it’s not all rainbows and butterflies. It’s a tough lesson to learn, but I guess that’s just how it goes in the world of real estate.
