So, my property manager recommended using contractors for repairs, which seemed like a good idea. But, after one incident where I paid $180 for a simple job, I started to question the quality of their work. I decided to communicate my expectations clearly to avoid any misunderstandings in the future. However, my property manager criticized me for being too hands-on and suggested I deal directly with the contractors.
Feeling a bit frustrated, I followed their advice and reached out to the contractors myself. Recently, there was a mix-up between what repairs I wanted and what was communicated to the tenants. When I brought this up to my property manager, they again accused me of being too involved, claiming that their other clients are more hands-off. I explained that while I don’t want to micromanage repairs, I do expect transparency and alignment on the work being done, especially since I’m the one footing the bill.
Now, I’m left wondering if I’m being overly controlling in wanting to be informed and involved in the repair process. Is it normal for property owners to take a completely hands-off approach and simply approve whatever repairs the property manager recommends? I believe that as the one paying for the services, it’s only fair to have a say in what’s being done on my property.
