Are These Buyers Really Serious? Or Just Playing Games?

So, we’ve been trying to sell our house for a while now. This is our second shot with a realtor, and we were all set to take the house off the market this weekend so the kids could start school in August without all the moving hassle. Then, these potential buyers come along. They’ve been through our place twice, spending way more time than they were supposed to, and their first impression was fantastic. They were practically gushing about how perfect our house was, ticking all their boxes. They even did some drive-bys and loved the neighborhood.

But suddenly, they do a complete 180. They start nitpicking everything – this is broken, that is broken, the whole place stinks, and the guest house is apparently running on a single extension cord, which makes no sense whatsoever. And just when we thought they were serious about buying, they hit us with an offer that’s a whopping $100k below asking price, along with a laundry list of demands. Are they for real or just using us as bait for another property? It’s all so confusing.

I’m at a loss here. I’ve never seen an offer like this before. So, I told our realtor to deliver a message: either they come back with a decent offer and be ready to negotiate, or they can kiss their chance goodbye. I’m perfectly fine with staying put for now. My kid’s already enrolled in school here, so no rush.

Oh, and just to clear things up, we initially listed the house for $550k at the end of April. But things went south with the first realtor, so we relisted in mid-May at the same price. Well, turns out we were on the wrong MLS for a while, which explains why we weren’t getting any bites. Finally, we got on the right MLS, but it was kinda late in the game, and now we’re here, dealing with all this mess. It’s frustrating because we missed the prime selling season, and now we’re stuck in limbo.

Just goes to show, selling a house ain’t as easy as it seems. But hey, we’ll figure it out. Cheers for all the advice, folks!
