So, I’m in the process of selling my house, right? It’s been about 6 weeks since this person made an offer on it. The catch is, I put it up for sale at a pretty good price because the HVAC system is kinda old – like 20 years old. But hey, it’s still kicking and has been well taken care of with regular maintenance. I was totally upfront about the age of the HVAC from the get-go.
Anyway, I’ve been busting my butt to get everything fixed that was flagged by the home inspector. I didn’t even hesitate to get it all sorted. And get this, I even agreed to knock a bit off the price because of the HVAC’s age. Plus, I shelled out to have the unit serviced. So, I did what I was asked, no questions asked.
We were cruising along, all set to close the deal a few days back. But then, out of the blue, they hit the brakes. And get this, they’d already sent over the closing paperwork for me to sign (I’ve already moved to another state), had it notarized, and sent it back to the buyer’s lawyer. And now, here’s the kicker – the buyer is back at it, demanding even more money off because of the HVAC. I mean, they’re asking for so much off that it’s almost the same as the cost of a brand-new unit!
So, I’m over here like, what gives? I mean, shouldn’t the deal be done since we’ve done everything they asked for and even signed all the closing paperwork that they sent over? I’m seriously annoyed, and it seems like both my real estate agent and the buyer’s agent are just as frustrated.
I’m just trying to wrap this up so I can quit juggling two sets of bills while waiting for this house to sell. But I also don’t want to get taken advantage of. So, what are my options here? Can the buyer actually pull this stunt after all we’ve been through? It’s my first time selling a house, and this whole situation feels like a rollercoaster.
