Can a New Home Bring Peace of Mind for Me and My Wife After a Rough Few Months?

Looks like we’ve been taken for a ride by the seller. What’s worse, I feel like the realtor was in cahoots and feel like we have been taken advantage of. I feel like we are victims of a realtor/seller scam.

The last few months have been a rough ride for me and my wife. Three years ago, we purchased a starter home with an exceptionally low interest rate, and initially, we were very pleased with it. Unfortunately, we soon encountered a unique and severe neighbor problem that was unresolvable, even by the police. With my wife pregnant, we knew that we had to move, and soon enough, we sold our home and signed a temporary lease.

We then began a new home search, and with a newborn on the way, we felt the pressure to find a safe area in a good school district. This proved difficult, but eventually, we found a home that we thought we liked. Although it was a little overpriced, it seemed to meet most of our criteria. We felt confident enough to go ahead with the home inspection, and we were pleased with the results.

However, once we had gone ahead with the purchase, I felt an immense amount of buyers remorse. I felt like I had totally lost my mind. We had massively overpaid for the house, which was from the 1980s and had all sorts of problems – from the HVAC to the stairs not feeling safe, to some electrical issues, a lingering smell that I couldn’t identify, and an awkward layout with a small kitchen. I still couldn’t even get the dryer installed because the tubing was too short.

It felt like we had been taken for a ride by the seller, and I can’t help but feel like the realtor was in cahoots with them. We felt like we had been taken advantage of and were victims of a realtor/seller scam. It was a harsh lesson to learn.
