So, get this: I own a property with a family member, right? It’s an inherited joint property in another state. Well, turns out, I recently found out that a realtor put a lockbox on the door without my knowledge or consent. And get this, the other owner apparently hired this realtor, even though I made it crystal clear that I didn’t want to work with them. I mean, I had only spoken to this realtor once briefly like two years ago, and since then, I’ve been saying in writing to the other owner and her lawyer that I ain’t down with this realtor. But guess what? The other owner went ahead and engaged with this realtor behind my back to sell the property.
I only got wind of an offer made three months ago because the other owner’s lawyer sent it over to me last week. And get this, the realtor listed as the listing agent on the contract was the same one the other owner was trying to force on me. So, I did some digging and found out that this realtor tricked the buyer’s agent into thinking she was the listing agent and even gave them the lockbox code.
Now, here’s where I’m at: first off, don’t realtors need signatures from all property owners to list a property for sale? I mean, I never saw a listing because I didn’t even know this realtor was in the picture. Oh, and get this, a neighbor told me they found out the property was for sale from the realtor who put the lockbox on the door. So, if a realtor needs all owners’ signatures and this one didn’t have mine, what can I do about it?
Secondly, aren’t realtors supposed to have a signed listing agreement before slapping a lockbox on the door? If that’s the case, can I just yank the lockbox off without reaching out to the realtor? I mean, clearly, I need that thing gone ASAP.
So, that’s the scoop. I’m stuck in this mess with a sneaky realtor and an uncooperative co-owner. What’s a person gotta do to get some peace of mind with their property, right?
