My wife and I got this lakeside cabin as an inheritance last year, but it was a total disaster left by the previous occupants. We filled up a whopping 250 big garbage bags with all sorts of junk they left behind – just cardboard, paper, and the like, nothing too gross. We rolled up our sleeves and dove into cleaning, painting, and ripping out the old flooring, replacing it with shiny new boards. The kitchen and bathroom are still a work in progress, with just the subfloor down for now. I took off all the trim too, for good measure.
But here’s the kicker – over the past year, we’ve been dealing with a buggy invasion. We had these pesky half-inch black beetles known as Asian beetles swarming around, as well as those persistent carpenter ants that just won’t take a hint. I’ve been on a mission, spraying the outside of the cabin and every nook and cranny inside to keep those ants at bay. They usually back off for a bit, but lo and behold, they always come back for more.
I’m thinking of getting down and dirty with a knife or something and running it along the edges of all the flooring and subfloor to suck up any dead bugs or debris. But hey, I’m all ears for any tips or tricks you might have to keep these critters out for good. Any suggestions are welcome!
