How to Evict Ants from Vents: A Homeowner’s Dilemma?

So, my partner and I finally closed the deal on our dream house on January 14th. We were over the moon, ready to move in and make it our own. But guess what? By the next day, our living room and kitchen were swarming with sugar ants. And get this, we hadn’t even unpacked yet, so there was literally nothing to attract them. Talk about a rude awakening!

We decided to hold off on moving in for a couple of weeks to tackle the ant infestation head-on before bringing all our stuff into the chaos. We called in the big guns – Orkin Pest Control – and they came out a whopping six times within a month. But alas, the ants seemed to be winning this battle. We even went the extra mile and caulked every baseboard in the house to stop those sneaky critters from coming in. It worked in some areas, but the little buggers were still finding their way through the floor vents.

Frustrated, we resorted to using foil tape to seal off the vents from the crawlspace. Yet, the ants persisted, making a grand entrance every time the heater kicked on, courtesy of our ducts. It was a nightmare. We suspected there was a water source and a full-blown ant party happening in the crawl space, but we couldn’t deal with it just yet. Apparently, we’d have to wait a couple more months for the rainy season to pass here in Washington before installing a sump pump to dry things out.

Here we are, stuck in a never-ending ant saga. We’ve had Terro baits out for weeks, but it seems like they’re just killing the ants too quickly for us to make a dent in the population. To make matters worse, the house sat empty for seven whole years before we swooped in, so you can only imagine how long these ant colonies have had to thrive and multiply.

So, my burning question is: how the heck do I get rid of these ants in the vents? I’m at my wit’s end, and I need a solution, like, yesterday. If you’ve got any tips or tricks up your sleeve to help a desperate homeowner out, please send them my way. I’m all ears – well, eyes in this case. Let’s band together and show these ants who’s boss!
