I’ve been living in homes with garbage disposals for about a decade now, from rentals to my current owned house. But to be honest, I’ve had my fair share of problems with them. I’m not great at keeping random equipment in top shape, so they often end up smelly and clogged. That rubber stopper with slits meant to prevent things from falling in doesn’t seem to do much, and it always looks gross.
As a big fan of rice and pasta, I know these are not exactly disposal-friendly foods. I try to be careful and dump out as much as I can, but those sneaky noodles always find a way to escape the bowl, and rice loves to stick to everything. Now, as I’m about to replace my sink and choose new faucets, I’m contemplating whether I really need another garbage disposal.
After a decade of living with one, I’m torn between feeling like I can do without it and wondering if I actually benefit from having one. The constant odors and the frustration of things slipping into the disposal are starting to wear on me. It’s a tough decision to make, as I haven’t experienced life without a garbage disposal in so long.
