So, my partner and I are on the hunt for a new home, and let me tell you, the prices out there are sending us into a state of shock. We’ve got our eyes on two houses that we really like, but here’s the kicker – they’re way out of our budget. Like, we simply can’t afford to shell out the asking price for either of them. We’re not made of money, you know?
So, we had a chat with our real estate agent about maybe putting in a low offer for one of the houses that’s been sitting on the market for a whopping 280 days. We’re thinking, hey, maybe the seller would be open to negotiating given that the house hasn’t exactly been flying off the shelves. But our agent, bless her heart, seems to be dead set against the idea. She hit us with a “Don’t make an offer if you don’t want the house,” kind of line. Like, of course, we want the house! We just can’t drop that much cash on it.
Our logic is pretty simple – if we can’t swing the asking price, maybe we can throw out a lower offer and see if the seller is willing to meet us somewhere in the middle. But our agent is acting like she’s the one making the decisions for the seller, shutting down our plan before we can even give it a shot. And that’s got us wondering, is this whole situation really on the up and up?
I mean, if I were in the seller’s shoes, I’d want to know if there were folks out there interested in making offers, even if they’re not exactly what I had in mind. It’s better than hearing crickets, right? I did a little digging and saw that there have been around 13 saves on Zillow for this particular house during its time on the market. Now, I’m not sure if that’s a good sign or not, but it doesn’t seem like a huge amount compared to other listings I’ve seen.
All in all, it’s got me feeling a bit stuck. On one hand, we’ve got our hearts set on this house, but on the other, we’re being told to either pay up or move on. It’s a tough spot to be in, especially when you’re just trying to find a place to call home without breaking the bank. I guess we’ll have to weigh our options and see if there’s a way to make
