So, my partner and I are moving into my childhood home. It had been rented out to family friends for years without a formal contract. As we started settling in, we noticed some floor issues, so my dad, who has construction experience, checked out the crawl space. Turns out, the floor joists were in bad shape due to lack of ventilation, and there were already jacks in place, indicating that someone knew about the problem but didn’t inform us. We decided not to proceed with the move until the issue is fixed.
We’ve been trying to get a contractor to come and give us an estimate, but it’s been over a month, and no one has responded. We’ve reached out to several businesses, but either got no response or promises to come out that never materialized. This is my first experience with contractors and home improvements, and I’m not sure if this waiting game and unresponsiveness are normal.
I’m feeling a bit frustrated and unsure about how to handle this situation. It would be great to hear from others who have dealt with similar issues or have tips on how to navigate this process. I just want to get the problem fixed so we can finally settle into our new home.
