Living in California, where costs are known to be higher, my partner and I were taken aback by the outcome of our recent bathroom renovation project. On top of that, we were asked to purchase additional materials totaling over $8,000. This unexpected spike in costs meant that we could only afford to complete half of the bathroom renovation for nearly $25,000.
The project management aspect of the renovation was equally disappointing. The project manager assigned to us was unresponsive and disorganized, leaving us to take charge of managing the schedule, coordinating with contractors, and following up to ensure progress. This lack of communication and organization resulted in us being unable to use the bathroom for a month after the renovation was supposedly completed, as the contractors had forgotten to order the shower door.
To make matters worse, all the leftover materials that we had paid for were taken by the contractor. This experience was frustrating and disheartening, and we felt compelled to share our story not to criticize but to inform and caution others, particularly those considering remodeling projects in California. We are curious to know if this level of service and unexpected expenses is becoming the norm in the industry or if others have encountered similar challenges.
