“Why Is There Sewage in My Ditch? Find Out!”

So, here’s the situation: the health department recently received an anonymous complaint about possible sewage in my ditch by the road. Even though the inspector admitted that it didn’t really look or smell like sewage, he decided to do a dye test just to be sure. He mentioned that he would come back in a day or two to check the results. A few hours later, I spotted bright green dye in the ditch.

My septic tank is located around 150 feet from the road, with my house in between. I’ve checked around, and everything seems normal with the basement, sump pump, and leach field. The land is pretty flat, so it’s not like the sewage is flowing downhill. I’m scratching my head trying to figure out what could be causing this issue.

I’m determined to find and fix the problem, but I can’t help but worry about potential fines or even being forced to leave my home. I’ve only been a homeowner for about five years, so this is all new to me. Any thoughts on what might be going on and what I should do next?
