So my partner and I finally landed a deal on this house we’ve been eyeing for a while now. The poor thing had been chilling on the market for a good 35 days before we swooped in with an offer. Fast forward to this past week, the inspection day. And boy, did we discover a laundry list of issues. The main headache being the standing water in the crawlspace, which was a real head-scratcher to figure out how it got there in the first place.
Now, here’s where it gets interesting – the house was labeled as a modular home, but our inspector and agent are throwing around words like “manufactured house.” Confusing, right? And get this, the trusses up in the attic seem to be sliced into four pieces. Is that normal for a modular home or what’s the deal here? On top of that, we’ve got shingles that are either damaged or holey, siding crying for help, a back porch that was clearly not installed by a pro, missing joist hangers on the front porch, and windows that need some serious TLC due to broken seals.
But wait, there’s more! The electrical situation in the attic is a whole mess with exposed junction boxes and damaged wires. It’s like a DIY electrical experiment gone wrong up there. So, needless to say, we’re feeling a bit lost. The thought of throwing in big bucks to fix all these issues on top of what we’ve already put into the place is making us break into a cold sweat.
Our agent has given us some advice, but we’re still not entirely sure what to do. Are these problems just par for the course when buying a house, or are we in over our heads here? We’re leaning towards asking the sellers to tackle most of these issues or we might just have to hit the brakes on this whole deal. It’s a tough call, but we gotta do what’s best for us in the end.
