Hey there, fellow new homeowner! So, I just moved into my new house a few days ago and boy, am I feeling overwhelmed. I did all the right things – got the house inspected, appraised, asked all the questions, even got a warranty. The previous owner assured me that the finished basement was in tip-top shape and had been dry all summer. But guess what? I come home after a long shift at the hospital to find half of my carpet soaked and a damaged wall due to a leak in the basement. And to top it off, it’s the middle of the night, so there’s not much I can do at this hour.
I’m feeling pretty frustrated and honestly, a bit betrayed. My realtor and I even asked for photos of the basement before it was finished, but the seller didn’t have any to provide. Now, with more rain on the way and a busy schedule ahead of me, I’m not sure what steps to take next.
I know the saying goes, “your house, your problem,” but this situation has me at a loss. Should I just bite the bullet and call in a professional to assess and fix the leak in the basement? I have a U-Haul scheduled to move the rest of my belongings soon, and I can’t deal with this added stress on top of my long work hours.
I wish I had a straightforward solution, but right now, all I can do is seek advice and figure out the best course of action. Has anyone been in a similar situation? Any tips or suggestions on how to handle this unexpected and frustrating turn of events as a new homeowner would be greatly appreciated.
