Man, I’m feeling so bummed and frustrated right now. My family and I are in the process of moving out of state, and we went all out to get our house ready for sale. We emptied the place out, hired a deep cleaner and a carpet cleaner, and honestly thought we had done everything to get rid of any lingering smells. The carpet cleaner even used a deodorizer and assured us that he got the smell out. We have three cats, but most of our house is wood flooring with only two rooms having carpet, so we figured it would be fine.
But, after just one day of intense showings, we’re getting feedback about a cat smell. Ugh, seriously? Our real estate agent suggested that we replace the carpet and put a temporary hold on showings (which we’re going to do), but does that mean we’ve lost those potential buyers for good? Our agent promised to follow up with all the showings to let them know we’re working on fixing the issue, but man, it’s so frustrating. I’m grasping at straws here, hoping for some kind of solution.
Update: The feedback we received has been incredibly useful. We’re not taking any chances, so we’ve ordered an ozone machine to tackle any lingering odors, and we’re also going to put in new flooring. It’s frustrating that we have to go to these lengths, but hey, anything to make sure our house sells, right?
