This became apparent when I compared the freshly painted baseboards with the existing trim – the difference was stark. Despite using quality products like STIX primer and BM Advanced Satin trim paint, the painter had cut corners and left the trim with only a primer coat.
Feeling frustrated and betrayed, I spent two days rectifying the painter’s shoddy work. This experience taught me a valuable lesson about the importance of being vigilant when hiring professionals for home improvement projects. It’s essential for homeowners to educate themselves on what a primer coat looks like – streaky, non-uniform, and semi-transparent – compared to a finished coat that is uniform, solid in color, and shiny.
To avoid being taken advantage of, homeowners should closely inspect the painter’s work after both the primer and finish coats have been applied. This ensures that the painter does not resort to shortcuts or attempt to deceive customers with additional charges for work that should have been included in the original quote. Trusting a painter blindly, as I did, can lead to disappointment and extra work down the line. Always stay informed, ask questions, and verify the quality of the work done to protect your investment and avoid unnecessary stress.
